You gotta give thanks where it’s due.
Date night after weeks, and it was definitely worth the wait – Gratifying food, incredible company, and faultless service. Which is what gave rise to our first waiter-appreciation post.
When Yuven and I find somewhere or something we love, we stick to it – We’re loyal nogal. So on Wednesday night we rocked up at Waxy O’Connors, Sunningdale, for the umpteenth time, amped for a ridiculously awesome night. We had made a booking waaay in advance because Waxys is notoriously popular, and they offer some superb specials with Happy Hour from Monday to Thursday between 5pm and 6pm.
Our waiter, Bryant, lead us to our table with the most infectious grin and told us about their Happy Hour special of a Castle Tank for R17.50! Two Castle Tanks were ordered and Bryant was back in a jiffy along with another cool deal that Waxys was running – We were offered a little card in which stickers were placed every time a Castle Tank was ordered. Once 12 Castle Tanks were ordered at any time until 15 July 2019, we would be the owners of a soccer jersey. We, of course, were game!
We were deep in conversation, talking animatedly, when Bryant popped up to remind us that Happy Hour was almost up, and if we wanted more beer at R17.50 then we should order now. And so more beer was ordered! By this time the atmosphere was lively, with hungry and thirsty people pouring in, but the waiters were phenomenal! Despite the large groups of people snaking their way in, Bryant was always in range ready to bring the next beer or a clean ashtray since we were sitting in the smoking area.
When our food was in view, and before the serving board was even placed on our table, we were salivating. The combined smells that entered our nasal passages were of crispy fried onion rings; soft, fluffy chips; and bacon, cheese, and glorious beef from our respective burgers – The Waxys Whopper and a Paddy Sanchez. We obviously had no complaints about the food or drinks, and the night continued to be just perfect.
Occasionally Bryant stopped by to check up on us, but never at that inopportune moment when our mouths were stuffed. We were so blown away by his faultless service and humourous small talk that we had to ask him for the correct spelling of his name so that we could personally mention him in this post.
Thank you for your impeccable service, Bryant, Waxy O’Connors is yet to see the last of us!
