Our quest to sample different foods and explore new places took off yesterday as we ventured to Durban North for Sunday brunch. We had a sneaky feeling that we’d stick to our usual of burgers and chips, albeit at a new restaurant, until we spotted Connor’s Public House.
Before marching in unaware, we scoured the net for their menu, which turned out to be quite interesting. However, walking in was a surprise – All the patrons were pale and at least 3 times our age! Our eager waitress eased our minds though by suggesting their Sunday Special of either roast beef + trimmings, or a beef and Guinness pie for just R 65, BUT it was 11 am and the kitchen only opened at 12! We chose to wait it out and sip on a few drinks (our waitress brought the wrong ones but we forgive her).

The food arrived promptly after 12, and turned out to be belly-bulgingly indulgent! The beef was tender and bite-sized (in the pie), the vegetables were fresh with just the right bit of crunch, the gravy was drool-worthy, and the drinks cold enough to flow lazily down your throat.
So, to summarise we would suggest Connor’s Public House if you’re a middle-aged person looking for people of the same kind to catch up on some overdue conversations, or if you’re just after wholesome food without too much ambience. Our waitress, however, gets 9/10, but that’s just in my opinion 🙂
