By George, I think we’ve got it!
Strolling along the Umhlanga Village you would be forgiven for scuttling past The George for the fear of a drunken soul mistakenly crashing into you.
From the outside The George seems like the kind of hangout you would meet a few pals at for a night of drunken stupor. But Yuven and I decided to venture in for date night, and boy, were we surprised. The inside is quite pleasant with low lighting that is bright enough to see what needs to be seen, and the friendliest of waiters always within visibility, as well as being knowledgeable about the menu.
We settled on their daily special which includes:
- Cape Malay chicken tramezzini
- Chicken bunny
- Chicken schnitzel
- Beef prego roll
- Hake and chips
- Some more that we can’t remember
PLUS a draft or glass of white wine all included in the price of R 65 per special!

Our meals arrived before Yuven’s first draft had been drunk, and the presentation was phenomenal! My Cape Malay chicken tramezzini was bursting with some kind of unique flavour that sashayed along my taste buds, and Yuven’s beef prego roll was even more scrumptious since it seemed to be coated in some kind of coffee and chilli-flavoured sauce. Both meals were accompanied by hot, fresh chips, and left us feeling like we ate for 2 people each.

There seemed to be no rush to leave so we savoured our beer and chatted whilst our superb waitress appeared every time we needed a top-up.
After our incredible afternoon, we would definitely recommend The George to a young couple, a group of friends or just about anyone who enjoys good food and beer, but that’s just in my opinion 🙂
