Indian Summer

It’s either a lamb bunny or no bunny

Indian Summer is located in Glen Ashley, and you would be forgiven for driving pass and not taking much notice of it – It almost appears to be hiding from the world. Upon entering, you’re immediately greeted politely by the soft-spoken hostess who offers you a seat of your choice. The inside is not too fanciful or pretentious, with simple table settings and the walls splashed with colourful bharatanatyam photographs.

The menu housed a variety of Indian foods that we were unfamiliar with, however, our sole purpose of choosing to dine there was to devour a lamb bunny pronto! Their bunnys weren’t listed on the menu, but our waitress informed us that they did in fact sell them, and the smallest was a half loaf. So we ordered our half, obviously hot, lamb bunny, to share of course.

When it arrived, it was a treat for the senses – Neatly presented with a side of carrot salad, and an aroma that we were not expecting from a lamb curry. Tucking in took the experience further – The curry was absolutely exquisite! Not the usual karou lamb curry, but instead slightly sweet with a definite spicy undertone. What a delightful combination! The salad was, according to Yuven, soaked in vinegar for just the right amount of time. Yuven also ordered a beer, and although I decided not to order a drink, our superb waitress brought along a glass of water, just in case.

The atmosphere throughout the time we visited was very warm and family-orientated, with minimum noise and no “riff raff”, and the staff were polite, almost to the point of it being painful – But we do not consider that a complaint! Before leaving we were pleasantly surprised to find that our half loaf of complete satisfaction cost just R 98!

To summarise our lip smacking experience, we would suggest Indian Summer to anyone looking for a fantastic lamb bunny which may not taste like your authentic home-made lamb curry, but offers you tantalizing flavours that do the bharatanatyam on your tongue and keep you wanting more for days after, but as usual that’s just in my opinion 🙂
