I judge a restaurant by the bread and by the coffee.
Yuven and I have previously dined at Mugg and Bean, Gateway on multiple occasions, and we’ve never had any complaints – It’s always smelt and tasted as comforting as home. So when we stopped there on Saturday for coffee we didn’t expect anything less.
To our tremendous pleasure, the menu had been upgraded with alcoholic beverages! Not that it stopped me from my usual Caribbean Mocha, but Yuven was thrilled that he could now sip on a Long Island Iced Tea whilst I enjoyed my coffee and chocolate chip flapjacks. Our waitress was absolutely pleasant and handled our indecisiveness with professionalism.
The arrival of our drinks brought along aromatic scents of coconut and the distinct scent of 5 spirits. The flapjacks were lighter than a cloud and overflowing with good-quality chocolate chips, and generous helpings of maple syrup, cream, and ice cream. Although we decided to share them, they nonetheless proved too much for two people.

My Caribbean Mocha tasted exquisite, and was at the ideal temperature to not just drink, but to also savour every satisfying sip. Yuven also seemed to have absolutely no complaints about his Long Island Iced Tea, and trying to get any type of conversation from him whilst he sipped on it proved futile – That’s how I knew it was a delightful drink.
Mugg and Bean may now seem part of the furniture at Gateway, however, it still holds all the appeal it first did, which is why we would now suggest it to just about anyone in search of wholesome food, tantalizing drinks, or scrumptious desserts, but that’s just in my opinion 🙂
